On this day, eight years ago, the United States was attacked by terrorists. Some say that we did not act correctly, some say we did when we moved militarily into Afghanistan. This is not the purpose of this posting. The purpose of this is to state that I will not forget. It is to state that we, as a country, should not forget. We should keep in mind that this day is a national day of service and remembrance in accordance to the remaining family of the victims of this day, eight years ago. What happened should never be forgotten, nor should it be celebrated.
September 11th, 2001 should be remembered but not mourned. It is a day that the United States of America changed. Indeed the world changed because of this day. Some say for the better, some for the worse. This will be in dispute for years to come, but none can deny that the world has changed drastically in the eight years following the events in New York and Washington DC. The world is continuing to change and forever will. We should remain vigilant and aware and mindful of our surroundings both politically, economically and physically. As we move into the future we should keep in mind that time is an ever changing sea though patterns have emerged. We can interrupt these patterns and in some cases most certainly should. I believe time to be a “circular line” or a spiral. As such, things reoccur but in different ways each revolution and will continue to do so until the End.
We should learn to tell the future by looking at the past, but we should not say that things will be the same from one revolution to another. That is not the view of time I have. As we move forward, we should remember the signs of coming events and work towards peace through prevention of events like 9-11. While this may not be wholly obtainable, waking the world up to the various possibilities should be a priority. Not every person will listen and not every nation will find seek the good of the world over themselves. It should still be a goal and obtained as much as humanly possible.
After eight years, it is time to move on. It is time to put the pieces together again. It is time for drastic changed internationally. The United States is not alone in the world, nor is any other country. People around the world should realize this. The global community should grow and nourish the world spirit. Together we can keep events like those eight years ago from happening. We should strive to grow a community within our neighborhoods. We should attempt to build ourselves up spiritually and emotionally to meet this goal. We should should not mourn or celebrate this day but we should never forget.
I remember today eight years ago. I was on my way to school. Everyone on the road had stopped, unmoving. At the time, I didn't have a working radio in my car, so I didn't know what was going on. I was an hour late to class because no one on the street was moving at all. When I got there, I found out why. Every television in my school was turned to CNN. I was watching when the second plane hit the towers. After that, we were dismissed but no one left. Everyone gathered in the commons and just sat there. Faculty and students. It wasn't even 10 minutes after I arrived for class. I was shocked and even though I drove to school that day, I walked home...
Carry on.
