Now I hope y'all don't mind but I am going to preach! Not just to YOU, but to ME. I need this. I know how things ought to be. I know the things I ought to do, and how i ought to feel, but I need to put it in writing as I put it forth... in my own reality. I have will, but I need to strengthen it. I have faith, but I need to build more... and I have strength, but I need to muster a lot more to get me where I need to be. I suspect that you all need these things too, because you can never have too much of any of these things.
When I was in Church I learned a lot of spiritual principles, and ways to do things that work very similarly to Magick... and the principles are very very similar to what we all do now, but there is a particular skill set of this that i need to refresh on... and i am not pushing religion down your throat, because the principles are the same no matter what religion you practice. Call it Faith, call it will, call it whatever. It works. Many detractors call this practice the "Name it and Claim it preaching," but it really is that simple and I have seen it work many many times. Oral Roberts also had something he called SEED FAITH, and it's similar but it's based on giving, and the principle is very similar to Karma.
I have always translated these principle into more generic terms on this board, but today I just don't feel like risking anything being lost in translation. I think I've maybe lost something in the translation as well, so i am going back to basics... mostly because it used to work better for me as far as things in the natural world is concerned.
As we approach the future with new strength of will, i think we have a lot to look forward to. As practitioners of various spiritual, astral and magickal skills, the most important skill of all is WILL. Now Kata can speak more on will than i can, because I've always called it faith, but really it's more or less the same thing. After a period of seeking wisdom and guidance, you decide things will be a certain way and then believe they will be, make them be, and with your attitude, your faith and your will, you form it into being.
For the purpose of this practice we use bible verses, which we repeat to ourselves to strengthen our faith. We do not doubt the verse, which applies to a Magick principle. For example.
We have the power to speak things into existence... for better or worse, and therefore we have to be careful what we say... we are often caught "making a bad confession"... in other words predicting the worst verbally. As long as we predict the worst we always get the worst. When we believe that things will be OK then they usually are, but when we worry and fret... then things tend to go much worse. Bible verses for this, which I remember for this are..
"call those things that be not as though they were."
"Ye shall have what ye say."
"IF thou hath faith as a grain of mustard seed and say unto the mountain be thou removed and cast into the sea, and doubt it not in your heart, then it shall be done for you."
There are many more verses on this topic but these are the ones that I use most.
The power to speak things into existence began with creation, and it continues in us. We have the same creative power as God. It works the same way. We literally do have what we say... therefore defeatist speech dooms us until we stop it.
Now sometimes we do worry, and what you do then is called praying through... which is an active meditation. Here are the steps to praying through.
1. Go ahead and let out all your frustration and upset, by explaining what you need in strong terms... it's a prayer, but it's much more than that. It's completely informal, and it amounts to verbally and also emotionally stating the problem. It's OK to be upset in this phase, though it's not vital... but you should feel something. Do this for as long as necessary... pour your heart out, spill your guts, and explain exactly what your problem is, and how you feel about it.
2. Thank God for all he's done for you so far, and be thankful for all the blessings you have in your life... Technically this is the first step, but I find it better to do it second, after stating my business. I don't think God cares, and emotionally... it's easier on ME to do it this way. Like starting at the state I'm already in, and then working my way into feeling better.
3. Now you seek guidance. A Pentecostal prays in tongues, meditates, and tries to vision the answer... basically though it's waiting for instructions. It's usually a rather emotional process but in general it amounts to asking the boss what to do next, after admitting things have not been going as planned. WE stay in this state as long as necessary. This phase of praying through can go on for minutes, hours, even days... I suppose it could go much longer but it doesn't usually... It varies, usually according to how easy it is for us to quell our emotions long enough to listen, and that is why step 1 is so important, and why I prefer to do that first.
During step three you continue to feel a little better, and you feel thankful, and eventually you enter an ecstatic state, of prayer, and praise, and just being in the presence of God... and feeling that white light totally bathe you, and clear away your selfishness, so that you can see the true solution to the problem.
Step four is amazing... because step three is a transformation. Suddenly you get a relief, like a release, and you just suddenly feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. Suddenly you know the answer to your prayer, whether it's telling you to try harder, and giving you the strength and resolve to do it, or whether it's a physical healing in your body, or something that you now know will just happen to help you.
5. Go follow your instructions, knowing that everything will be fine.
Verses that describe using this process are.
"Ask and ye shall receive. Seek and ye shall find, Knock and it will be opened to you."
"Seek ye first the Kingdom, and all these things shall be added unto you."
"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as Eagles and Fly. They shall run and not be weary they shall walk and not faint."
"God will supply all your needs according to his riches in Glory."
So the point here is that whatever we need is available to us, through our faith and will according to our guidance to it, and our willingness to ask.
Sometimes we just need a reminder... and here a verse I use for that. WE all know that fear is bad, and sometimes it's just hard to control, and that's what praying through is for. WE are not just praying through to God, we are praying through our panic into a better state of mind, and spirit, where we CAN evoke good things and not bad.
"The Lord hath not given you the spirit of fear, but of power, love and of sound mind.
Another thing that many people find helpful is this.
"If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away, and behold all things have become new."
"Forgetting those things that are behind and pressing on to the mark of a higher calling."
Now what this means is that every day we start fresh. We have a clean slate, and we don't harbor things that happened yesterday, and we don't dwell on the past. It's a new day, and we are forgiven any mistakes we made, and we forgive things that were done to us. We don't have time to harbor grudges or wallow in guilt or self pity. Yesterday is over. We can't change it, and we really don't have to worry about it. Today is the day.
"This is the day which the Lord hath made. We will rejoice and be glad in it."
So we are only working with today... and today we find out what to do, and then do all we can towards what we were told. WE believe that things will be alright, and we press forward to our calling, knowing that those things which we see in our way, are not the whole truth, but that a greater force will make possible what we seek.
Seed faith is another principle which works well.
"Give and gifts will be given unto you, pressed down and shaken together, all men will pour them unto your bosom.
Giving to someone in need, or giving to a cause really does help our situation financially. How? you might ask? Because of karma. Giving doesn't have to be money, it can be labor or time or items, but you have to give in order to receive. Most of my teachers agreed that one should give 10 percent of income, and/or 10 percent of your time to helping others. That's just expected, but the more you give the more you are blessed. AT the same time though, common sense must rule. Don't ever give away the house payment or the rent... or whatever, because you are also obligated to pay your bills, so you have to do that also. Give out of your need though, as well as out of your abundance.
We all have different ways of practicing these principles, but I thought I would share my basic and core ways, in order to maybe spur you into remembering yours. If you have any practices that help you function better please post. I know that these practices have to be adapted from one person to another, but as I said there are basic principles in what we practice, and in particular the practice of praying through is just universally vital, because it is a way of transforming your way of thinking, and bringing about what you truly need.
In general though I do want to say. Things can get tough, but we are tougher. "WE are more than Conquerors." WE can make a difference, and we all HAVE power... the important thing to do is remember to use it. I know I get caught up in hand wringing sometimes, when things catch me off guard, or I procrastinate things I ought to do, rather than figure out how to do them... or pray for guidance... and i put off praying for guidance because it can be time consuming... but really I have wasted more time waiting, and doing things the wrong way, than I would have spent getting my instructions, and waiting till i felt better about it. it usually only takes an hour or so, but when you keep getting interrupted or if your emotions are way out of control, it can take longer... but however long it takes, its worth it.
So the bottom line is that we can do what we need to do. We can have our needs met, and we can have whatever we keep on saying... therefore we need to watch out for what we continually say.
