This year, I don't pray for peace on earth. I don't pray that everyone will get along. I don't even remotely wish for everyone to get what they want. Not necessarily good will towards all people, either. No, this year, I wish and pray that everyone will at least come to understand one another. I pay that this year, people get what they need and deserve. This year I pray that nations promote learning and enlightenment with respect towards other cultures and individuals.
This year, things are changing. We, the United States of America, have set the world aflame the last five years. This will not stop. I do not expect it to. There will not be peace, however, there should be understanding. There should be an understanding among the general population of the world on why this is going on. United States citizens should understand what the current wars are being fought for. The people in the countries in which there are military actions should come to an understanding that, despite the coalition's war campaign against terror, we do not mean them harm. This year, people should receive what they need and deserve. Be it death, be it imprisonment, or all that is good in life.
Through understanding of one another, things, I hope, will become more peaceful. Through understanding, one person may not wish to cause harm to another. They understand the reasons why they do things. They understand why they do not do other things. Through understanding of the people around you, you can gain an understanding of the people around them, and so on. It creates a web of understanding, a common thread we should all have with everyone else.
This year, things are changing. This year, things will be different globally. The news still dictates what we should think, feel and act upon. I pray this changes this year as well. Most of us are intelligent enough to make our own decisions. Most of us are capable of reasoning things through. However, very few people have the common sense enough to understand. It all comes back to that one concept, understanding.
To understand something is to think about it, study it and to figure out why it is that way. Thinking, purposefully and intently concentrate on, to gaze at, in hopes of understanding, or figuring it out. We should all strive to understand one another. We should strive, not for peace and good will, but for understanding. Understanding of humanity in general, and then of cultures and peoples within the culture, and then, finally, understanding of the individual person. Again, the web of understanding.
Think on these points this year. Understand the meaning of the words on this page. Above all, celebrate understanding with your family along with your cultural, religious or personal holiday. Strive to change the world through understanding. Happy Yule and New Year.
