So, here is what I managed to cook up. It's a rough draft, and I'm open to suggestions:
A Date with Amour Fahti – An Introduction
-What is Amour Fahti?
'Amor Fati' is a Latin term for 'Love of fate' or 'love and acceptance for one's fate'. Amour Fahti is an innovative means to live up to your potential through creativity.
Amour Fahti is a transpersonal dance-movement discipline that encourages and honors the creative process of personal growth and transformation, being and becoming, healing and existence.
Dance and movement are the fundamental principles of this practice and discipline: movement as a means for integration and developing the skill of conscious awareness of all aspects of ‘self’ beyond the ego [the discipline] and dance as an expression of one's journey, integrating movement based practices with virtuoso dance styles to form a creative mode of expression in life [the practice].
Quest for Wholeness + movement + dance = a creative expression of Individuality…’Being Well’ with Self
Movement is honored as a model for discovery, healing, creativity, inquiry, and exploration. The focus is on re-establishing a connection to the flow of life within and without, mindful of one’s connection to Self, Humanity, Nature, and the Cosmos. Consider the inherent characteristics of movement and challenge yourself to discover creative ways of expressing your process of being and becoming an individual.
Being a transpersonal discipline and practice in nature, what’s of great importance is the intention to listen inward and the willingness to accept all aspects of ‘Self’ as a means to growth and transformation. With the influence of Transpersonal and Jungian Psychology, Transformational Life Coaching, the process of creative expressive modalities and dance techniques from various dance genres, Amour Fahti offers endless possibilities for the journey of the seeker and the discovery of greater fulfillment and bliss with self.
This introductory workshop offers an opportunity to develop a spiritual practice grounded in movement and dance.
Key Modes of Integration and Expression: Assimilation, Independence, Creativity.
Through Assimilation we will learn the basics of:
• Music: listening to the music to learn musicality; listening with the music to connect the cosmological characteristics of its movements to that of the body’s movements. Music will be used from all corners of the globe to widen and deepen the appreciation for movement and the dances that are influenced by it.
• Raqs Sharqi/American Bellydance – the slow, fluid movements found within this art form are used as a means to journey inward to access and reclaim one’s inner wisdom and power. Muscle toning, improvement in posture, a boost in self-image, reduction of stress, and the eventual increase in strength of the back muscles are just few of the benefits of this art form.
• Salsa: the basic steps in Salsa are taught as a means to offer additional creative inspiration for movement, as well as deepening fluidity in your movements.
• Argentine Tango: walking and gliding, ochos [figure eight-steps], and developing intimacy with self, better balance and one’s relationship to the gravitational pull on one’s body.
• Embodied Movement: inspired and influenced by the Authentic Movement discipline [Mary Whitehouse and Janet Adler], embodied movement focuses on giving form to inner impulses to move – that psychic force that initiates such sensations and images – without censorship or judgment, developing the capacity to be compassionate with oneself and intuitive listening.
• Ballet: learning only the basics of Ballet to improve posture, develop grace in movements, strengthen the abdominal muscles and improve flexibility.
Through Independence we will:
• Identify where we are with movement and dance so we can propose to ourselves ways in which we can shift from how we are with each and where we’d like to be.
• Define for ourselves what dance and movement is and how we can use both to further our development as individuals.
• Discover ways we can use dance and movement as a fruitful spiritual practice and discipline.
• Learn how to create from within and without through movement and dance.
Through Creativity we will:
• Create an outline of the values and tools we’d like to see in our personal dance-movement discipline.
• Discover how movement can be used in other expressive modalities [such as painting, sculpting, other visual media, etc.] to support our practice.
• Initiate ways to support ourselves during our creative and individuation process.
This is a dance-movement discipline/practice can be used to deepen a movement or dance practice that you already or aspire to have.
You are invited to go on a date with Amour Fahti – discovering the love for your true nature, creatively living up to your potential.
