Earlier today, I came to realize that in most of the dreams I've been having the last few months all involved water somehow. They also involved myself changing into various characters from stories that I feel least connected to. Like say I read Dune, one who's read it may empathize more with Paul Atreides, as such is my case, but in the dream I would turn into say, Duncan Idaho, a character who plays a key role, but one who I really feel no connection to at all. In more cases, this is a character who furthers the plot but only as the wheels of the vehicle rather than the catalyst. Another thing, is that my dreams are usually me alone and changing and then people come and show no signs of unrecognition. As such, they see me as who I was rather than who I changed into even though in any reflective surface, I am, to use my previous example, Duncan Idaho, instead of myself, Ryan Miller.
I have no clue what this means and I have tried to find out. I just find it rather odd.

Water is the symbol of both the subconcious and the emotions. The conditon of the water tells us how the emotions are flowing, whether the waters are peaceful or raging in a dream speaks or our feelings. The ocean especially speaks of the collective unconscious... and also of our own unconscous emotions.
As for being other people: You are sometimes so I guess your mind is exploring that. In life no one questions or even realizes that you are Ash or Jeanette. You always appear to be you, to outsiders, even if you are channeling others.
If I remember correctly from the book, Duncan Idaho was a facinating character. I wish I remembered the book more, but it has been years. I did not like the way any of the movies potrayed him so much. I also read that Duncan was the only Dune character to appear in every single book of the series, in the form of Golias. In many ways Duncan was the ideal, the role model of Paul. Much more than Paul's father, Duncan was a man who needed to be copied. He has a sort of perfection about him, which made him seem invinciable. Duncan was cloned for the subsequent stories, but really he was worthy of copying.
Dune was a very deep book, full of hidden meanings, and trecherous Characters. I personally was facinated with the Bene jesserate, and the Orange Catholic Bible. Especially the creepy old woman who tested Paul. I found all of that interesting.
Duncan though was someone you could count on, and maybe you are a bit more like Duncan than Paul in some ways. If it were not for Duncan Paul would not have survived, and without Duncan's lessons, Paul would not have been what he was. It took Duncan's, and Paul's mother's influence for Paul to become what he was. Paul was a creation of these other people who's influences created all his attitudes, and his atributes. Really Duncan much more than Paul's father, made Paul what he was. I never saw the big deal with Paul's father the Duke. Duncan was the real father figure in the story.
Anyway I think you might be exploring some of your own subconscious influences, and ideals. Trying to figure out how your own mind works, and how it conducts other influences.
