I figured since no one has ever posted in here, i might give it a shot.
I was once told that the definition of hell is "furthest away from god". While in other religions hell is a "hot place of agony and torment" while some say "hell is an icy prison of torture" Some say both....Some say it is your worst nightmares come to life.
I remember watching a little documentary about a near death experience this guy had. I will begin to create details while keeping the main perspectives in mind.
He was an arrogant, ungrateful, willfully ignorant, mean spirited guy. I mean the bells and whistles of "asshole". He was undergoing surgery for his bad heart, and he had a cardiac arrest and fell asleep. He woke up, didnt see any bright lights or old family members welcoming to the afterlife....he just shruged it off as a vivid dream at first. So as anyone would...he explored the hospital a bit. At the end of the hall he saw a "nurse" go around a corner, and he ran to get her attention....as he turned the corner and got the nurses attention, she turned around and held a wicked, distorted figure. as he backed up, he encountered distorted bodily depictions of people. He ran, they chased him, until he was overcome by them... A sea of monsters and this guy screaming his head off..they bit him, tore into his flesh, and more gruesome details While being completly conscious of the entire event, even after they began severing body parts etc...then the fire came (if im not mistaken)
Finally his heart began beating again, and goes to show he was literally "dead" for a few seconds. He said that he "felt the true terrors of hell". And from then on he has lived an upstanding and joyous life with no more negativity in his heart.
I once read that Jesus said to his disciple that there "is" a way out of hell, once you get into it. (kind of like a back door) the only way to find it is if you have faith.
My main point is, there are so many versions of hell.
for a very small example: the 6 Buddhist realm, with hell being the last:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_realms
And of course, 16 levels of hell within that:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naraka_%28Buddhism%29
with other versions of hell by other religions:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell#Religious_literature_and_beliefs
what do you feel hell to be, or what have you experienced personally?
