In the beginning, I was walking to Her house. As I approached the door, She came running out and excitedly hugged me. She had been crying, so I asked why.
“well”, she paused,” I’m pregnant” she said in a soft tone.
I was shocked by this, as she was only 15, and she wasn’t one to do things as such. So I wondered about it. Whose it was, and so on. She never would tell me whose it was, but I pressed on for more information, wondering whether or not she would get angry and stop talking all together. The more I pressed, the more I learned though. I learned that it wasn’t just one baby, it was 7 of them. Now this was a small girl, and I knew that it would kill her. She was a strong Christian so I never brought up abortion, as that was out of the question. But I knew She couldn’t have these children. As we walked into the house, I was greeted with unfriendly eyes from her parents. They didn’t take too kindly toward her either. I guess they felt their little darling had betrayed them. I had no idea why they looked at me like that. She wouldn’t tell me. She once again started crying, and just turned to me. I held Her for a long time.
There was a river, it had many little islands of garbage, stable enough to stand on. I and She were jumping from place to place. She was in a bathing suit, and it was freezing outside. We eventually came to a barge, and She, being tired and cold, laid down and curled into a ball. I lay down beside Her, and she turned to me. I held Her again. And I slowly drifted off to sleep, it felt like six hours...
I finally found out what had happened. And Her panicking, told her parents that I had been the father of these children. She knew her parents would have killed her if they found out the real man. So, as I should have done, I sat there, and took it all..
Now I watch the seven children crowded around a hospital bed, and a middle aged man laying in it. He was telling them stories. Next to him, as only I could see, I saw a shadowy figure standing next to him. And in the middle of one of his stories, put his hand on the mans shoulder, and sort of nod. The man looked up, and returned the nod. Then he said it is time for them to go. The children all whined, but alas, they came to me, and we left.
Now, I’m sitting here, on this park bench, watching the seven children. I turn, and see Her and the man holding hands next to me. They both are crying, and they are thanking me. Then the shadowy figure comes by, and they all agree, it is time for them all to go.
They are all adults now, and I’ve told them the truth.. And seven siblings stand around two graves. On a rainy, windy, dreary cold day all wondering what had happened in their lives.
Here lies the body of a strong willed woman, died while giving childbirth.
I turned and walked away, They were all waiting for me. Me and the shadowy figure shake hands. The girl hugged me, and the man gave a nod of approval.
